Gay Pavelka, has worked with councils, government departments, businesses and community organisations involved in resource management since 1990 and with community organisations in dispute since 1986. She is experienced in mediation and in facilitating community discussions aimed at gaining agreement on public issues. The courses she runs use approaches that have proven to be effective in New Zealand.

These courses will likely count to CPESC requirements (awaiting approval) and NZARM members are entitled to a discount.

This two day course provides practical, effective strategies and skills that give results.


How do resource management practitioners move talks from a polarised, ill feeling, distrustful state to constructive talks that get results? How effective are we at making talks work? This course aims to look at community conflict situations through a facilitator's eyes, trying out approaches that encourage new insights into issues and experiencing skills in action that help build cooperation. How to respond to challenges, create safe talks, make progress and behave ethically are part of this course. Course approaches apply to small and large meetings and although designed for conflict situations the techniques also help prevent conflict.

These courses are designed for people who seek agreements over resource management issues such as: siting of facilities, conservation, access to land, building disputes, managing waterways, changing land use practices.

The days include actively testing a range of practical approaches for application in a wide range of situations. The goal is to reduce the need for litigation.
